Northvolt is now looking for a Senior Process Engineer for our battery recycling operations in Skellefteå and Västerås The purpose with this process is to separate out valuable metals for reuse in battery production.

As Senior Process Engineer, you will have deep knowledge in process design, equipment handling, operations and maintenance planning, control design etc. You will play an important role in dealing with equipment vendors and collaborating with Northvolt’s factory design team to efficiently integrate the process into the factory. You have experience in the field and have been driving large, innovative and challenging improvement projects in the areas of yield, cost, quality and efficiency. You are a team player, curious and eager to learn.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Defining process design basis and process design criteria.
  • Continuous gap & opportunity analysis of the process design
  • Researching and conducting tests (lab and pilot scale) to develop new and improved processes.
  • Performing engineering calculations, modeling, and/or simulations in order to achieve the optimum process design configuration.
  • Working closely with R&D to articulate the process design needs, proposing test plans and engaging in iterative discussion to ensure that the R&D outcomes will align seamlessly with our robust design objectives.
  • Working with key system/equipment suppliers in order to develop solutions that are tailored made for our needs, and at the same time contribute to cost efficiency and maximizing yield.
  • Working closely with engineering consultants during different phases of engineering to take the innovative ideas all the way to the execution.

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc degree in Chemical Engineering/Process Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience within high volume production in a related field.
  • In depth knowledge in Hydromet process, including leaching, solvent extraction, IX, filtration and crystallization-precipitation processes.
  • Successful track record of leading process development and project establishment in early initiation phase including feasiblity basic and value engineering practicies in complex chemical processes.
  • Successful track record of leading process improvement projects in a production factory.
  • Experience from scaling production in a fast-growing environment, ideally in the mineral processing, chemical manufacturing, Pharma, Paper & Pulp, Electrochemical or similar industry.

Specific skills

  • Excellent English written and verbal skills, Swedish/German/French is a plus.
  • An eye for details.
  • Has a "can do" attitude.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as independently.
  • Ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines, excellent time management.
